One for the grown-ups, we love the Kyocera Hand Held Adjustable Slicer because it's super sharp, perfect for gratin dauphinoise, tarte tatin and a whole host of other things you can only do with a mandoline (try aubergine thinly sliced length-ways, spread with pesto, a scattering of mozarella, roll up, secure with a cocktail stick and bake!) and it's compact enough to store unobtrusively when not in use. My word, is it seriously sharp though! Guard or no guard, watch those fingers!
